GSH Group, Inc., an international facilities and energy management provider throughout the United States and Europe, announced that a property enrolled in its Energy Plus program has achieved an Energy Star. The award is for Nexus Properties´ 85,000 square-feet office building located at 22 S. Clinton Avenue, Station Plaza Four, Trenton, New Jersey.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, an Energy Star-qualified facility meets strict energy performance standards set by EPA and uses less energy, is less expensive to operate, and causes fewer greenhouse gas emissions than its peers. In order to be awarded the Energy Star, a facility must perform at least 75 percent more efficiently than similar buildings. Energy Star® determines a building´s performance by analyzing the most recent 12 months utility usage per square foot and comparing this to buildings of similar size, type and usage.
GSH has been running its Energy Plus program in the Nexus facility since June 2008. As part of its program, GSH funded energy savings projects to substantially reduce energy consumption at no cost to Nexus. Project work included installation of an Andover building management system, software design, implementation and control of variable air volume drives, lighting upgrades, and other mechanical improvements. GSH also monitors the building´s equipment daily to ensure maximum energy efficiency.
The facility will be presented with the Energy Star plaque and will be included in Energy Star´s online registry.
"It is because of the hard work and dedication of the GSH team that we are receiving this Energy Star and we look forward to our continued partnership with GSH," said William Harris, Vice President of Operations for Nexus Properties. "We are proud to display the Energy Star plaque at this building and hope that it inspires others to take steps towards energy efficiency. This designation is just another part of our long term view for an energy efficient portfolio through renewable energy installations and projects like this that ultimately directly benefit our building occupants."
"Energy Plus is a complete energy program package with many steps to reduce energy consumption including audits, assessments, project work, ongoing monitoring and adjustments.” said Frankie McDonald, Assistant Vice President of GSH Group. “The Energy Star award is evidence of the successfulness of our program that we are honored to achieve for our clients.”
