GSH was founded in 1895 by George Scarr-Hall as a small engineering firm servicing the thriving pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent.

The company evolved over the years, surviving two world wars and dramatic changes in the economy. In 1969 it opened its maintenance division and in 1982 the group expanded first its maintenance division in the then embryonic facilities management market.

GSH listed on the Alternative Investment Market in April 2005 and is now an international provider of facilities and energy management solutions.
